I was coming back from a recent outing of indulgence of fried chicken and general fat-assness, and on the way home while waiting on the bus something caught my eye. Standing on the corner of 79th & Jeffery, there’s this little women’s clothing store and on the door was this posting.
My first thought was “Was this too little too late?” I mean completely understand the reasoning behind people taking a stand and trying to make their community a safer and better place. In most neighborhoods within the southside of Chicago, the corner convienence store is anything but a convienence. It’s the local hang out for the pushers, dealers, hypes, crackheads, drunks and the homeless. But is it fair to say that the proprietors are the cause for the downfall on the urban neighborhood? What I get from this window posting is that without the corner store, there wouldn’t be any urban decay and I know that’s not right…

I saw this AOL throwback on twitter and it actually got me in the mood to write something. After writing it, I realize how ultimately depressing it seems and that was so not my intention. So while there are many negatives list below please know that I’m staying positive and keeping my head up. Here’s the breakdown;
Age – I turn 30 this year, yet I don’t feel like that much time has past since I turned 21. But then it hit me, I came across one of my little cousins Facebook page. I distinctly remember going to one of his an his twin sister’s 6th or 7th birthday parties as a kid. He’s in his twenties now, in college and pledged Phi Beta Sigma. Feels like everyone is growing up but me. I’m still sitting around reading comics, watching Spongebob and playing video games while everyone else is living, getting careers being ADULTS. Just some party small talk I had not too long ago…
Them – You have an interesting accent, where are you from?
Me – I’m from the west side of Philly…
Them – Cool, how long you’ve been in Chicago?
Me – About 8 years now
Them – 8 Years? You ain’t from Philly anymore. After 8 years, you from Chicago now!
I posted this to say that I just signed a new lease for an new apartment on the south side of Chicago. I plan on moving first or second week in June. Its a nice little 1 bedroom near King drive. Now I know that some will say that I’m a fool for giving up my house. But I was never comfortable there, and the upkeep was a bitch. Plus now, that I’m moving to Illinois I get some money back from paying taxes in 2 states.
So who wants to help to move a couch or two?
