Like A Ralph Ellison Book

…Niggas can’t see me. I’ve been told that maybe if I change my content or narrow my interests, Phillybred.com can be notice, or that my site doesn’t fit into one particular niche. As if I’m the one only gay, comic book reading, straight porn addicted, Doctor Who watching, Macintosh owning, 25 going on 26 year old black man on the Internet. There’s got to be at least someone else who’s like that. I digress. But why would I want to change something that’s a part of me? This site is supposed to represent me and that’s the problem you find with most blogs. Folks are constantly trying to be something they’re not and lack substance. I’ve been doing this for too long, I don’t need to fit in that badly?

At first not having PhillyBred.com recognized anywhere use to eat away at me, now it doesn’t bother me, and in fact I’m embracing it. So fuck a 9rules.com, fuck a Six24.com, and fuck a webring.

No Rules
PhillyBred.com will not longer support any type of blog community, aggregator, or web ring. If I read your blog, I’ll link to you. I won’t ask you to return the favor nor do I want folks to email requests for me to add them. Also if you happen to feel what I’m saying, help yourself to the image above. Take a stand and be uncompromised.

Can I ask what you are even talking about? I don’t recall sending you an email saying you need to change or narrow your content because it doesn’t fit in a particular niche. If you hate 9rules for other reasons that’s find, but seriously, what are you talking about? We’ve never told any of our members to change their content so if you can explain your hostility maybe I can help you out.

I’m going to put this as nicely as I humanly can:

No One Was Talk Talking To You.

I never said that someone from 9rules sent me an email, 9rules was only mentioned solely for the fact that its a blog aggregator. Dude I’m not being hostile, its more or less a statement that I don’t care that my site isn’t showcased anywhere. Wasn’t trying to bash you or 9rules and I actually when through several rewrites so it wouldn’t come off as an attack. Guess you got lost in the cultural gap…

Hey T, I’ve always loved your blog.

You give a point of view on life that is unfamiliar to me. I’m a straight halfbreed spoiled white girl living in the burbs. You’re everything that I’m not :)

When I first started reading it, it was mainly because you’re from here in Chicago, but I’ve gotten to know you from reading what you write about and I think it’s great.
You’re a great person. Don’t change anything around here, it’s fine the way it is.

Scrivs: I don’t think he hates 9rules. He’s just saying he wants to do things on his own terms.

LOL @ “got lost in the cultural gap.”

Tony, you’re killing ME!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still (silently) read you, and still love your blog. lol. I also feel where you’re coming from as well.

Tony.

Give em hell.

I run and bump into the same issue for the most part, it boils down to as you said “cultural gap.”

xjn.

thanks for the graphic.

Didn’t get lost in any cultural gap. I saw a 9rules logo with a NO stamp on it, what was I supposed to think? Or are we saying that in your culture a red circle with a line across it doesn’t denote “NO”?

And I do agree you need to blog for your own good and not to be accepted by a network, blog aggregator or group. All I was saying is that 9rules doesn’t prevent you from doing things on your own terms.

More people need to blog with your passion.

Well back in my day the circle the slash through it mean ‘-busters’ as in if you put a ghost in the circle it was ‘Ghostbusters,’ drugs was ‘Drugbusters,’ the word ‘GANG’ was ‘Gangbusters,’ but maybe I’m just showing my age and I digress.

I admit that I used the 9rules logo simply becasue it was an easily recognizable image to the blogosphere. Essentially the same context if I were to use the Golden Arches to reference ‘Sickee-Deez’ i.e. all fast food chains. I apologize if you misinterpt the image or what I said even though it was stated wasn’t directly at 9rules.

I understand the need for a site like 9rules and how others are compelled to submit to it. Hell I felt a need to do so for greater exposure. But now I see what precedent it creates for others and the ‘norules’ logo was an alternative for those who choose to forgo the superfical judgement process.

You know I’ve been diggin you. I am a comic book reading mac owning gay who prefers straight porn (god if I look anything like what I see in gay porn on the rare occasions I have sex, the last thing I’d want to do if film it!).
